Marketing Direction: RAR Consulting is experienced with the development of short- and long-term marketing plans comprising multiple communications streams, each with discrete planning, implementation and tracking mechanisms. We are able to support market analysis programs, advise on outreach and messaging strategies, and implement programs to produce compelling products that are delivered to their intended audiences. We use planning tools like MS-Project to schedule and track line item activities and we use metrics to monitor results in meeting targeted objectives (defined in the marketing plan), and ultimately in terms of return on investment. We cost projects and then track and report expenses.

Our experience is that an effective marketing effort is one that succeeds on more than one level. Firms need to train themselves to see every aspect of how they communicate as a marketing moment, an opportunity to support their missions of quality and excellence. The standards for meeting client expectations and keeping pace with the competition become more stringent with each new year as ever more sophisticated tools are developed to help users deliver high quality products. The competition's personnel grows more sophisticated along with these tools, and the AEC and IT industries are full of smart people.

The leveling factors in marketing these professional services revolve around that people competing for work in their specialties all do what they do in about the same way once they have won the contract. There are industry best practices. Even "innovative" ideas tend to be practiced by more than a single firm, so it isn't easy to influence decision makers for the next deal solely on the strength of experience with similar work and an engineering approach. RAR Consulting helps firms plant messages throughout targeted industries, and in a range of media, so that the establishment of a firm's qualification is done long before such is presented in a proposal. We work with business development managers to establish the framework for client outreach and communications, and along the way we craft the message, the language, and the communications vehicles that will best meet the client's requirements and needs.

Even in industries populated with people as smart and technical as those we work with, we at RAR Consulting feel that it is the "soft" skills that we provide that make the difference between winning and losing opportunities. We analyze communications challenges, ask the right questions of our collaborative clients, develop thoughtful and supportable strategies for achieving our clients' goals, and provide the content creation horsepower to ensure that they are presented effectively for their strengths and qualifications, and with the professional image they wish to convey.
